Happy Easter

Lets us not get lost in all the fun stuff of Easter. It is great to have joy in those things, but I must say how grateful I am to my Savior for loving me enough to atone for all my sins and imperfections. I am grateful that he died for me AND ALL OF US that we may all have eternal life.

1933

What an interesting photo!

As a youth I grew up in Southeastern Iowa and the cemetery where this is located is in Burlington, Iowa.

Aspen Grove was recently contacted by an aquaintance of mine and they told her this was used as a "Receiving Vault" back in the 1900's. It was built in 1933. This is where they stored the bodies until they were ready for burial. This vault has been closed now she said at least 60 or 70 years. Nothing is stored in there because they can't hardly get the doors open.

SAY IT AIN'T SO!!!!!

STOP..........NOT MATTHEW TOO.....

I HAVEN'T GOTTEN OVER THE PASSING OF SYBIL YET!

If your a fan of Downton Abbey then you too are sad.

Let's all say it together: Matthewwwwwwwwwwwww!! Yes, last night our dear Mr. Crawley, the unwitting heir to the Downton lordship who once served as our eyes into this ordered and buttoned-up world, was unceremoniously forced off this mortal coil. He was driving triumphantly home after meeting his new son in the hospital, his beloved wife Mary glowing beatifically, when some sort of truck surprised him and, boom, he was run off the road. In case there was any question as to whether or not Matthew might have pulled through, the camera focused in close on his open, lifeless eyes and a trickle of blood running down his cheek. Our Matthew has been cruelly snuffed out, though at least he went happy. It's everyone else who has to be miserable now.

Why Matthew? Why now, so soon after Sybil? Well, it was simply a matter of actors being actors. Both Jessica Brown Findlay and Dan Stevens wanted out, their careers taking off in big ways since Downton's mondo success, and they were only contracted for three seasons. Julian Fellowes has said in interviews that he would have liked to have kept both actors, and even asked them to just do a few episodes next season, but both were resolute. And because they're members of the family, rather than servants, writing them off meant killing them. And so kill them he did, both dying soon after the birth of a child, which is a rather obvious device. Sybil's baby is named Sybil and, one would guess, Matthew's baby will be Matthew. So really we haven't lost anyone! It's all a bit convenient, isn't it?

Living In the Past

Guilty.......Guilty.......Guilty!

Why is it that some of us choose to live in the past and just what is it that seems to take us there?

I listen to the music of the 60's and the 70's alot and I often wonder if that is the reason that I find myself browsing in the past.

Other times it's certain sounds or smells that take me back!

People live in the past because that's where their thoughts are!  But is this behavior really healthy?

Whether our thoughts are focused to one area in particular or a whole range of reasoning, it is an issue of self evaluation or comfortable living.  Because it is the past, people are more comfortable with the certainty of it, even if it was a negative experience.  Ahhhhhh.......I think the key for me here is the word "familiar".

"Once upon a time" begins fairy tales of days long gone and tells stories of yesteryear. Some of us are stuck in the past and have no desire to move forward. Others want to but can't get motivated, or don't have the tools to make any progress. Living in the past takes away from the people in your life today

But, I love my memories of days gone by and I love that all of my friends from childhood and my teen years are friends of mine on Facebook and we love talking about old times............

So......when is it that we cross the line from living in the now to living in the past?  Is there really a place  where it's simply not healthy to visit the past?  I don't think so............

...................and aren't my memories really mine to think about whenever I want?

                                                                 Hmmmm......

It's been a beautiful rainy Zion weekend!

I ♥ Salt Lake City

How beautiful is my Salt Lake City?

It is my retirement dream to live here some day!

I hope they have the air pollution figured out by then....

This is one of the most versatile places on earth!! Mountains, rivers, lakes, deserts, shopping, amusement parks, state and national parks, resorts, tons of historical sites, etc. etc. etc. If you can't find anything to do here you definitely are out of touch.

Home Day

It's a home day and I am sewing for the grankidos for Valentines!

I have never had a problem with staying home on my days off but I love traveling to see my family most of all!

BUT.............

Since I have broken yet another toe....seriously...who in the world breaks two toes in seven months time?

Same toe, opposite foot!  It's been four weeks yesterday so things are progressing now and I am finally able to at least wear a loose fitting shoe when I am out.

The moral of the entire toe breaking story here is this:

WEAR SLIPPERS WHEN YOU ARE IN THE HOUSE!

AND
As much as it feels good to be barefoot ....just don't do it!

I remember one of two things I kept thinking back in May when I broke my other toe:

AMEN.......it's summer and a flip flop is good!  Well......I was wearing a flip flop in snow two weeks ago and that was just so much fun! !

The other thing....Lordy, I'm afraid to say it out loud!

I'm grateful it was not an arm, hip or a leg....(whispering)  Ha Ha

Girl Scouts

As a wee one growing up in the midwest I loved Girl Scouts and went to Camp every year.
It is some of the best memories I have as being a child.
I think this photo was taken about 1965.
I still remember the cute red tennis shoes I wore that day!

On the local news this morning it said that the last day to buy cookies here in Utah would be tomorrow?  Odd, as alot of my hometown (Iowa) friends on Facebook say it doesn't start there until Feb.  I will do some checking into this mystery and it's not that I need the cookies but I do love to support this wonderful program.

Long live the girl scouting program!

I still have my sash!  LOL

Crockpot Corn Chowder

My girlfriend Kathy pinned this to one of her Pinterest Boards this week and said it was delish ....so I am totally making it on Saturday.

Crockpot Corn Chowder: Place 4 potatoes (peeled and diced), 1 can of cream corn, 1 can of whole kernel corn, 2 c. of chicken broth, 8 oz. of diced ham, & 1 c. diced onion in crockpot. Cook on low 7-8 hours. Mash the contents to the desired consistency and then add 1/4 c. butter & 2 c. cream. Cook for an additional 30 minutes.

Update:  Made it Today Jan. 19th.  It is super duper yummy!
